I’m not a baby photographer. I’m a commercial and portrait photographer but I’m a storyteller first. That’s why when the moment calls to capture images that tell a compelling or beautiful story, I’m all over it. We went to New York not to see the tourist attractions or to hang out with Hamilton (although I totally wish that was on our to-do list), we came to meet my boyfriend Clayton’s niece, Elle. After months of waiting, we finally got to hold this sweet baby girl and be part of her world just for a little bit.
It’s these moments, of meeting a new member of the family for the first time, or the way a mother looks at her newborn baby that touches your heart and has to be captured, whether it’s your specialty or not. I loved getting to be a part of this time in all their lives. Clayton becoming an uncle for the first time and falling in love with a child that will hold his heart (just like my niece does). You never thought it was possible for you to love someone else’s kid so much, but as soon as you get a niece or nephew, you get it.
While we had fun touring the city, taking the subway all over NYC, Brooklyn, and Jersey we were more than happy to come back to Hoboken at the end of the day and just sit with the family. Holding crying or sleeping babies and playing with Lloyd, the best English Bulldog. (It was my job to make sure he was getting as much love as possible, and I took that job very seriously!) We went for walks around the neighborhood, hung out with lady liberty and watched the sunset over Manhattan at the park on the very edge of Jersey. It was obvious that our favorite part about this big adventure was making faces with Elle and listening to her cooing. We can’t wait till the next family vacation this coming Spring where we’ll get to hang out with her all over again! This time she might even laugh at the silly faces we make at her!
